What is NCB and how does it affect my Motor Insurance premium

NCB, an acronym for No Claim Bonus, is a discount in premium rewarded to the owner of the vehicle who has not made a single claim during the term of the motor vehicle insurance policy. It can be accumulated over a period of time.  If you have NCB, you can avail a discount ranging from 20-50% on the Own Damage Premium.

NCB rewards you for being a good driver and helps you save on your motor insurance. The chart here illustrates the discount on Own Damage Premium on account of the number of claims for the consecutive years.

No claim made or pending during the preceding full year of insurance


No claim made or pending during the preceding 2 consecutive years of insurance


No claim made or pending during the preceding 3 consecutive years of insurance


No claim made or pending during the preceding 4 consecutive years of insurance


No claim made or pending during the preceding 5 consecutive years of insurance

Please Note:

  • NCB becomes nil in case of a claim
  • NCB follows the fortune of the customer and not the vehicle
  • NCB can be transferred to the new vehicle in case of substitution of vehicle of the same class
  • Validity – 90 days from the date of expiry of the policy
  • NCB can be utilized within 3 years (where the existing vehicle is sold and a new vehicle is purchased)
  • NCB recovery can be done in case of a name transfer

    My wife Gayathri had an Innova at chennai and has been enjoying 50% NCB from Iffkotokio as well as Royal Sundaram. She sold her Innova on 22 Dec 2011 and TO papares are signed and car delivery note is with her signed by the new owner . however the new owner may regieter the Innova in his name only after 15 Jan2012.
    She has boughta Skoda Laura Ambient here and the old Royal sundaram policy valid till 08/12 , delivery note of the Innova sold are submitted to the dealer of skoda but he comes back saying Bajaj who do their insurances are not willing to accept NCB 50% and insist full payment. The dealer does not accept my own insuarance saying the Skoda shield will not be given if done so.
    In the deal I am loosing a lot of money (50% of premium ) tho I have accepeted this under duress as I have no other option since all these the dealer told me only after full payment.!!!
    Can u check up and let me know hwether ther is any remedy availble to me .
    Royal sundaram syas they want me to pay some extra amount and get the NCB certificate neven that may not be accepatble to Bajaj I understand.

    this is V.prasanta kumar,i have the maruthi alto vechile,reg no ap 28 bj 5035 met with an accident,after that we applied for the insurence claim at that u r surveiyer ofiicer SANTOSH visted the vechile and he is asking amount of 1000 rs just for sake of sanctioning the amount of insurence,is this is the way approch with geninue customers.and finally we got the amount 1669 rs out 10000.we are very sorry to say u r services is really too worst and too bad, and at the same time u r employes is really harrasing the customers.

    i have to renew the policy but the payment gateway for netbanking is asking for some secured access question which are not compulsory for othe transaction for netbanking
